Character Fulfilment is a Trading Name of Character Mailing Services.
Mark Manville is Managing Director of Character Mailing, bringing over 20 years of Direct Mail experience. He has progressed from the shop floor to Director level, gaining handson expertise across all areas of print, fulfilment, and warehouse operations. Mark oversees the daytoday running and strategic planning of the business.
He previously served as an Area Director managing multiple print and fulfilment sites. In 2014, he led the successful management buyout of Character Mailing Services Ltd, drawing on his experience with mergers and acquisitions.
John has been in Direct Mail for 30+ years, whose journey started as a porter many years ago at a data company. He worked his way up through the ranks to Call Centre and then Account Management. John then moved to Abbey National in the 90’s as a Buyer, it’s true to say he’s been on the other side of the fence!
He then worked for an Envelope Company who relocated him from the South to the North back into Direct Mail at a Manchester based company. After a year they put John out on the road into Sales and he’s not looked back since. From there, he then moved on to work for 2 big Corporates in sales, before settling at Character in 2010.
With over 30 years at Character Mailing, Paul has worked across most departments, bringing deep operational knowledge to his role. He oversees WMS stock control, manages the flow of work through the factory, and acts as a key link between Sales, Client Services, and production. Paul also coordinates with carriers to ensure customer mailings are dispatched smoothly and on schedule.
George began his career in reprographics after graduating from Sheffield Hallam University, working with Adobe Creative Suite and imposition workflows.
As Data & IT Manager at Character Mailing, he oversees data processing through the Cygnus suite and PrintShop Mail, ensures Mailsort compliance, and maintains laser department quality. He also leads software implementation and WMS migration projects.
George additionally serves as GDPR Officer, managing data security and supporting ISO 27001-aligned procedures.
Chris leads the Creative Services Team and, since joining in summer 2018, has focused on growing this area of the business and developing Character Creates. A former design company owner, he brings broad experience across graphic and digital design, digital marketing, plus print buying and management.
Alongside client projects, his team produces all marketing materials and digital marketing for Character Fulfilment and Character Mailing.
Miz is the Fulfilment Manager at Character Fulfilment, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations that keep orders moving smoothly from warehouse to customer. With a strong focus on organisation, efficiency, and accuracy, Miz ensures that every order is processed, packed, and dispatched to the highest standard. She plays a key role in coordinating warehouse workflows, managing stock movement, and making sure deadlines are met even during busy peak periods.
Known for her hands-on approach and attention to detail, Miz works closely with the fulfilment team to maintain a reliable and scalable operation for businesses of all sizes. Whether supporting growing e-commerce brands or managing large campaign mailings, she helps ensure that every project runs seamlessly so clients can focus on growing their business.
Joanne brings over 25+ years of experience at Character Mailing, progressing from Trainee Account Executive to Account Manager, where she led highvolume mailings and daily SLA driven campaigns for major brands including Next, Sky and Boots. She later became Client Services Manager, overseeing a team of three and coordinating print, mailing and postage solutions across departments.
For the past four years, Joanne has managed the company’s largest international account, delivering campaigns across 13 countries. She oversees the production of 14.5 million packs annually, manages 280 million component parts, ensures compliance with country specific sortation requirements and plans global shipments.
Mel brings extensive experience in Direct Mail, having worked with two companies in the industry before joining Character. Over the past 20+ years with us, she has primarily served as an Account Manager, overseeing the daytoday management of key client accounts.
As the main point of contact for many of our direct mail clients, Mel plays a vital role in maintaining strong relationships and ensuring the smooth delivery of campaigns. Her solid background in fulfilment enables her to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support project development across the business.
With her deep knowledge of mailing operations, Mel is able to offer insightful recommendations that help clients optimise their campaigns and achieve better results.
Ben has been a key part of Character Mailing Services since 1997, bringing extensive experience across data capture, IT support, data processing and programming. As the company’s Data Programmer, he specialises in preparing client data using Cygnus software and integrating it seamlessly into production workflows.
Ben also supports fulfilment operations with his technical expertise, leveraging WMS systems and AI tools to optimise efficiency. In addition, he helps maintain the company’s management systems and provides ongoing IT support, including cloudbased solutions.
Liz has been a cornerstone of Character Mailing Services for the past 35+ years, serving as our Human Resources department throughout her entire tenure. She manages every aspect of people operations—from administration, payroll, hiring to holidays, Health & Safety, contracts, recruitment, and even pensions. Liz truly knows our team inside and out.
During busy periods, you’ll also find Liz stepping in to support production staff on the factory floor, demonstrating her dedication and adaptability.
